Mission Bay Yacht Club: A Legacy of Sailing Excellence
Nestled in the heart of San Diego, the Mission Bay Yacht Club (MBYC) has been a beacon for competitive sailing since its founding in 1927. Renowned as a premier venue for national and world championship regattas, MBYC has even earned the prestigious title of “One-Design Yacht Club of the Year” from the US Sailing Association. Year after year, the club continues its proud tradition of hosting the ILCA California Masters Regatta, bringing together some of the most skilled sailors to battle it out on the water.
What is the ILCA?
For those new to the scene, the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) is the world wide organization sailing club for ILCA sailboat owners and enthusiasts. As the governing body that manages and coordinates Laser sailing dinghy racing worldwide, ILCA ensures that competition remains fair, thrilling, and accessible to sailors of all levels. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or just dipping your toes into the world of Laser racing, ILCA is where the action is!
Meet Micky Beckett: A Star of ILCA 7
If you haven’t heard of Micky Beckett yet, it’s time to get familiar with one of the biggest names in ILCA sailing. Hailing from Solva, Wales, Micky has been riding the waves since the age of five. At just 30 years old, his sailing resume is nothing short of legendary—boasting four European medals, two World Cup wins, and the incredible title of the world’s number-one ILCA 7 sailor in 2023. And if that wasn’t enough, he proudly represented Great Britain in the Paris 2024 Olympics! With his skill, determination, and passion for the sport, there’s no better athlete to represent this year’s ILCA Cal Masters Regatta and he’s just a really nice guy.

To celebrate this epic event, MBYC gave us a ring to create a one-of-a-kind ILCA 2025 Cal Masters Regatta tee, with a sleek simple design we created featuring Micky Beckett himself. It was an easy no brainer to execute their vision printed onto a higher quality blank that’ll last for years. We at Soulkal believe in the quality you want to achieve in a quality long lasting product, it was a no brainer for us to hand deliver it as well.
Our designer took the vision MBYC had in mind and transformed it into reality, creating a clean, simple, and stylish design that truly represents the regatta. To ensure it would stand the test of time, we chose a high-quality blank that’s ultra-soft, durable, and made to last for years. Our team then handled the entire screen-printing process in-house, carefully selecting the perfect ink and meticulously printing each design by hand to maintain the highest standards of quality.
Seeing the excitement firsthand as we hand-delivered these shirts was the perfect finishing touch. Here’s to celebrating the passion, dedication, and camaraderie that make this regatta so special—on and off the water!
